Besson

When my mom and I were in Paris this fall, we did a lot of window shopping.  We were staying in Saint Germain, which now that I’ve done that I don’t think I’ll stay anywhere else, and the neighborhood is full of the most amazing little stores.  Cities are becoming so homogenized all over the world – the same chain stores, the same chain restaurants, even the architecture can be startlingly similar.  Paris is unfortunately no exception and areas like the Champs Elysees, with all its history, now feels like nothing more than an open-air American mall.  Which is why I was so thrilled when walking down the winding little streets of the 6th Arrondissement we found places like Buly, like Fabrice and like Besson.

My French is certainly rusty, so based on their website I can only make out that they originally started in wallpaper and moved into fabrics and even lamps later on.  Whatever the hell they are doing over there, I want in.

We stumbled upon the store at night, but even just seeing the beautiful fabrics from the window was enough to convince me.

That mural wallpaper.  THAT.  I need that in my life and in my dining room.  There is a store here in Boston, my favorite store, who has this paper in their entryway.  I talked to the owner about it and she told me it cost and arm and a leg but it makes her happier than the very air she breathes.  She and I get along very well.

Such a beautiful shop on such a beautiful street.  If I had a Parisian pied-a-terre, you can bet I’d have it covered in Besson papers and fabrics.

Haley, you have such an eye for the beautiful. It will be so much fun watching you decorate your estate some day.
